“What is real and what isn’t? Would you take the red pill or the blue pill? Those are choices we all make in the world of the Matrix. Inspired by the film, The Matrix by the Wachowski Sisters, I wanted to show what happened after the ending of the movie. When Neo drops the payphone and flies away into the sky. What does he see? What does the world look like to him in the choices he has made? The vastness of his choices and the possibilities that lie within them. The slanted view is a take on the Dutch angle (known as a Dutch tilt, canted angle, or oblique angle). This is a camera shot technique that has a noticeable tilt on the camera's “x-axis.” The use of a Dutch angle here is to convey that something here is unreal, as is the matrix. It is to signal to the viewer that something is wrong, disorienting, or unsettling."

As a pop culture powerhouse, Star Wars never ceases to bring daily wisdom to my life with it’s beautifully drawn characters. Especially, one of my favorites, Yoda. With this painting on acrylic, I wanted to convey the quote - In a dark place we find ourselves, and a little more knowledge lights our way. The light and dark contrasts looming in the background with Yoda’s presence on between. God rays casting down from gaps of light between shadows. Yoda stands in between as our knowledge and wisdom.”

“The core concept of Inception, a 2010 film by Christopher Nolan, is to implant an idea into someone’s mind. A key scene in this film is the cityscape scene where building and roads are folded in on each other. In this oil on canvas printing, I was trying to find the same space folding imagery but in real life. On a beautiful afternoon walk by the bay, I realized how the repetitiveness of the power lines and their reflection on the water was like looking into 2 worlds. One that folds onto each other. The repeating power lines implies an constant (totem) and the electricity running through them represent the power of suggestion"

“Inspired by the anime film, Ghost in the Shell from 1995, this oil on canvas painting is a reflection of the feeling I felt after watching the film. In the opening sequence, the film shows reflections of puddles into the Hong Kong like skyline. The oversized sizes and building loomed over the city streets. Rain was falling creating slight rain drop waves. The waves are also painted to resemble radio waves and how we are always surrounded and overwhelmed by various signals. The emotion I wanted to convey was a sense of cramped-ness and anxiety"

“I am reminded of the Amblin films from Steven Spielberg growing up. The stories that inspired me to most was one where there was a wonder and innocence but as a child, we were trapped inside, looking out into the wonders of the world. I wanted to convey this emotion where a small child is wondering our of her bedroom window, adorned with beautiful clouds. I like how the feeling of weightlessness is conveyed in these films. I'm doing similarly with space and perception and positioning. Almost as if the silloette of the girl in her dress is floating in the air, to bring that feeling of color and larger-than-life clouds juxtaposed with the shadow of her shape, hinting at two contrasting sides, a dark inside and outside wonder."

In her royal gown with powered face, she the most the elegantly presented on her throne in Naboo. The large gem, gold elements, and her huge headdress all represent royality and riches but that is in contrast to her painted white face with sharp red makeup. Her face represents an innocence to her authority and conveys the softness we will see in Padmé's character later in Star Wars Phantom Menace.”
